Trans Labrador 2025
Pre-trip
This trip came about quickly. I had planned on riding with friends to the Mid-Ohio vintage motorcycle swap meeting. But high temperatures and other issues morphed that trip into a drive & motel trip. Not really my thing, so I bowed out of the Ohio trip with thoughts of going someplace cooler.
Cooler temperatures, translates to Canada. A decade ago a road was completed from the Quebec side allowing a loop ride to Happy Valley/Goose Bay. I knew others who went soon after, when it was nearly all dirt and far worst that it's current state. But it is a long trip with a narrow weather window.
Weather forcasts reveal that I should be able to align my travels between weather fronts and pass the two unpaved sections in dry weather. Most of the route is now paved but there is a 30 mile and 80 mile section that is still gravel. Some of the worst gravel roads in North America, much like the Dalton Highway that turned me back at the Arctic Circle in Alaska.
I'm starting out on the last 40% of tread on my 90/10 tires. Probably not the best choice. It's either going to be fine and the cheapest choice, or alter my trip timing/roads/costs. Buying new tires on the trip will cost far more than the savings of "using up" what is left on my tires.
I expect 10 days of riding to make the loop. Google says 62 hours and 3100 miles. I plan to stop a few places to see the sights, and listen to any warnings from Mother Nature. Planing to camp when possible, very likely wild camping in remote Kings Land locations along the way. In a few touristy locations I expect to spend a day or two in Provicial parks in Quebec, Labrador and Newfoundland.
