Ferry overbooked
Monday 8/4
The overnight weather forecast was spot on. Wind and rain in waves started late and was over by 0900. Without coffee, packing up just doesn't feel right. I made more grits and had tea. A photo of the beach on my way out and a quick wave to the campground owner. While I checked in last night, he had waved to a couple leaving and said, "Glad to see you go!" I imagined he gave me the same bon voyage.
Having been in this area before, I took fewer photos. My target was the Tea House breakfast . Last time here, we dropped down off the highlands to a seaside town and discovered this restaurant in Mainland. This time, I traveled counter clockwise around the island, the reverse of my last time around. On the map, I saw a label for Low Point just north of my target. I hoped for, but I did not find a sign to capture a photo of the low point of my trip. The Tea House break and coffee was good. And the views out the window is hard to beat. I took advantage of their Wifi and uploaded days of photos. I've been having a hard time uploading so many full sized images. So I have started trimming them back to just the better shots. You're welcome.
The ferry terminal was not very busy at 1730 when I arrived. They don't start boarding until 2130. The root vegitable and plant check girl said the vehicle space is booked until September. But they will place me in a standby line and probably be able to squeeze on a motorcycle. After that check I had to select one of two ticket booth lines. I chose wrong, and eventually moved to the other line after 3 or 4 passed the other and it was sitting empty. She called somebody and asked if I should be overbooked or signed up for September and put in standby. Thankfully the person on the other end said to overbook me for tonight. So I will be boarding at 2130 for tonights overnight crossing. Now, I just have to wait four hours to board the ferry and then try to sleep.
