Sunday 7/27
Very acurate weather forcasting for last night. It started raining hard around 2200 and stopped by 0800. The weather was overcast and foggy, so it was never exactly dry and sunny. Luckily, the tent patch doesn't leak, so I stayed 100% dry inside.
The cooler damp morning kept the bugs down until I made coffee. Then I went into the enclosed gazebo and had my coffee with my french friend and one of the (plus a few dogs). Correct dog count is actually four. But only 15 legs, one has a missing front leg..
Around 0930, I decided it wasn't going to clear, and I headed east with my rain gear on. The terrain changed a bit as I traveled. Same boggy ponds and lost of short evergreens trees, most of them with some fire damage over a range of years.. I saw another fox and a bald eagle. No moose or the warned about caraboo.
When I reached Happy Valley/Goose Bay around 2pm, I found a Tim Hortens to have brunch at. I then filled up on regular gas and headed to the Labrador Heritage Society Museum in North West River. I almost stayed on Sunday Hill in free camping. Because I plan to return on Monday to see the Labrador Interpretation Center. But I really needed a shower, so that meant a paid campsite.
On the way up, I had passed a previously abandoned campground that is being renovated as Gosling Lake Park. It was the closesst and they were cheap. I only asked one question: "Do you have showers?" Answer: "Yes, but no hot water. But it's pretty warm because of the warm weather." Good enough for me. In my mind, I'm pretty tough. $27 CA.
Decent flat gravel with a new picnic table and water. Todays museum was next to a grocery store. While stopped, I picked up a noodle meal, some raisins, cheese, and pepperoni. Turned into a good meal, finished off with some of my leftover salted almonds.
Then I took a long walk around the park. Nice beach area and lots of sites. Finished off my exploration with a cold shower. Normally, my mind says "I can" and my body says "no". Tonight, I took a few passes at it and managed to man up. Felt good to be clean again, and tomorrow fresh clothes!
Tonight is supposed to get down to 49F (9c), but no rain. The bugs don't appear too bad here. A cold morning should be almost bug free. The last few days have been in the 50s. Here it is forcast to hit a high of 71F. After my museuming, I'll be moving on east, perhaps to the coast... So my weather will be something else. No major rain forcast for the next few days. I am planning to reach Newfoundland before the next front hits later this week.
