In the beginning.....
June 2nd 2025
I haven't begun to slow down yet. I guess I am excited for my trip. I began this journey around 9 am this morning. I stopped for gas and then went on my way. It feels strange to be going alone. I drove for about an hour and a half and then thought I could use a break. It seems as though one and a half hours is a good interval. I stopped just outside of Keene NH at a nice Irving Gas station. It was next to a pond/swamp. There was a nice Red/white/blue picnic table where I sat to enjoy my small coffee and almond danish. As I sat, there were red winged black birds singing their songs. Across the street was a magnificent blooming Rhodedendron bush. I also noticed the pond has 3 beaver lodges.
The next stretch took me along Route 9 and over the bridge to VT. It was a cool windy day, so I had my heat on occasionally despite the mostly sunny skies. I started to need a rest again as I approached Troy, NY. I really wanted to stop, but everything was on the left and I was in the right lane. Too busy an area. Luckily I got a second wind and made it until I got off the highway in Duanesburg, NY. I stopped at the Duanesburg Diner. A little mom and pop place . I had a chicken and cheddar cheese sandwich on Rye( the special) with fries and a piece of Pecan pie for dessert.
After lunch, I stopped for gas and picked up a BLT sandwich for dinner. I arrived at the KOA in Richfield Springs, NY(Cooperstown KOA) at 4:00pm. I picked my campsite near the road, so I could hear the moo of the cows in the field next door. It was pretty windy, so I set up the tent and decided it was too windy for a fire. It took me about an hour to set up camp. Once set up, I went for a nice walk down the raod to admire the cows and calves. These are lucky cows. They live in lush pastures. When the grass gets eaten down, they move them to another lush pasture. Around 7 pm it was starting to get pretty cold out with the wind, so I am writing this inside the tent. I am proud of myself today. I had a few places that I was a bit challenged, but overall I felt pretty good.
