Silverton 8/15 Thu
Slept indoors again, just on my camp sleep system. No rain or wind and a set comfortable temperature. I better appreciate it all. Tucker most certainly enjoyed his hotel amenities.
Little is scheduled for today. Tucker went to the shop in Montrose when they opened. Nate slept in. I poured a mug of Josh's coffee and sat out front to watch Silverton life pass by.
There are joggers, dog walkers, and a handyman working on the house next door. Lots of distant beeping and the slam of garbage truck container emptying. Across the street is a bread van looking rig with mountain bikes parking on the street infront of a vacant lot. Interesting in part because of it's Vermont places. I saw a woman get out and head towards town with her coffee mug.
Recently Nate's brother Josh fell into a great deal on a Yamaha Tenere 700 (T700). The T700 was being outfitted for touring. So Nate and I are charged with the installation of the box of never installed extras. Josh has two work days before we head out this weekend and would love to ride the new T700. So that is our project for today.
In a 0915 text, Tucker reported that the shop agrees the clutch cable is a problem. Better yet, they think a lube and adjustment will fix his issues. By 1000 Tucker was ready to ride south from Montrose to Silverton by lunchtime.
Before Tucker arrived Nate and I walked around town and bumped into Jocelin Snow. Who is very talented rider/trainer capable of making large adventure bikes do magical things. From the photo you can see that she does all this in the form of a tiny woman. So it clearly comes down to pure riding skill.
Tucker arrived happy with his bike. We all explored Silverton's tourist activities: stickers, gifts, BBQ lunch, and train photos.
Late afternoon back at Josh's to add farkles to his T700. Once completed we went out for Mexican food and then a backyard fireside chat at the neighbors house until bedtime.
Thus far, I have not posted any tracks from this trip. I have used the android app OSMand to capture each days tracks. Yesterday's Pikes Peak ride should map interestingly. So I will add a map in this blog entry, to which I will start adding this trips tracks.
