Slowing down(6/12/23 Mon)

Two full days in Dawson City and my bike hasn't moved an inch. My new friends left around 1100 this morning on their journey to South America. A goal they will be until December achieving. Having spent nearly my entire time here with them I wondered how Dawson City would change when then left.

Last night after dinner we came back to the Bunkhouse to turn in early, so they could get a good nights sleep. We made plans to meet for breakfast after which each had a few last minute errands to complete. They would head south to Whitehorse and my last campground. And after the D2D event I'll head north to Fairbanks and their last stop before we all met. Which is also the same overnight stop the two Germans met the guy from Missouri and then rode to Deadhorse, AK.

Before heading to bed Sunday night I decided I should retrieve the AC charger from my bike. To top off the battery pack I used to charge my electronics. I never made it to my bike. Because I ran into a couple a few doors away from me and talked with them until a nearby room suggested nicely that we go to bed it's 2300. He ended up joining us for coffee/breakfast in the morning before the guys left. A little later we walked around town more and explored.

I've now been to the Dawson City Museum, Jack London Museum, walking tour of Dawson City, two of the four movies at the information center, talked most of the historic buildings, and what I call the poster presentation building.

There are still five more museums, a cultural center, and tours or hikes I could do. I could probably even read a Jack London book. Or better yet do some Alaska trip planning. I've purposefully not done too much planning so that I can easily align with another riders plans if the opportunity arrises. I'm expecting there will be others heading into Alaska after the D2D event.

I won't know my Fairbanks fate until I talk with the bike shop there on Tuesday. With luck they'll have what I need, or be able to get it this week. Dawson City sets a high bar for Fairbanks to compete with. Hopefully it wins by having exactly what I need with little to no wait. Providing my the option to hang around or head out.

Dawson City seems to have been the perfect place for an extended stay. Everything in town is walkable, and there are a lot of things to see and do for such a small place. The endless stream of adventurers is refreshing. Some are on bikes, others are just enjoyig life and traveling by planes, trains, boats, busses, bicycles, autos and RVs.
