NH to PA 2025-04-23
Headed for Jim's at 0600 , warmed by a heated jacket liner in 42F and fog. Clear and warming to 50F by the time we departed Manchester NH. Avoided some Rt93 commuter traffic to reach Rt495, Rt90 to Rt84 to Rt81 in PA.
Highway traffic flowing well in clear 70F weather. Various rest and gas stops until a late afternoon lunch near Carlisle PA.
We selected a campground a ways out of town to try first. That section of road offered a half dozen campground options and parrralelled the Apalatian Trail. The first campground was not so great, and the checkin area was closed. Our second try was also after business hours, but offered a brook-side tent area. The after-hours process wanted us to call for the gate code. But we could just slip beside the gate.
We selected a site and hung hammocks near the brook. The ExPed wide matrice, fully inflated, fits really well in the WiseOwl Hammock. A WiseOwl bug net encased the hammock with a 3x3(meter) tarp hung over everything. I then placed my sheet, down quilt, and pillow on the matrice.
Getting into bed then involved ducking under the fly. Unzipping the bug net. Sitting into the matrice on the hammock. Removing my boots, laying back and and swinging my legs up into the hammock. Finally zipping up the bug net.
While wondering where to store my socks I happily found the bug net offered fabric loops along the internal ridgeline. So I re-deployed my flashlight necklace as a clothesline. Hung my socks, keys, and flashlight. Then stored my pants in the narrow hammock space above my head. Slipped into my sheet and pulled the quilt over me.
In bed early., for a great nights sleep as temperatures cooled off.
