Chick flick? 2025-04-30
It's 2030 and we're watching a "chick flick" in room 120 of the Comfort Inn & Suites Barnesville - Frackville, PA. How did we get here? Let me roll back three states 520 miles and 12 hours prior.
No surprise that Jim woke up first and was packing up while I was still in bed. When I finally got up and dressed, with the room door open, I headed to the lobby for coffee. Past two toy poodles. Jim was grumbling about the owner letting one of them piss on the column outside of our room. The first poodle ran up and took a few pats on head. The second ran up and growled at me. The owner yelled at the growler. I continued my mission in the lobby. In and out with travel cup in hand and back to the room. Packing up the bike, we learned the growler had a broken rib because it messed with the wrong Rottweiler. I was now glad it hadn't nipped at my heals and found out how far I could punt it. I find it hard to be intimidated by anything smaller than a football, especialy when it stood between me and my first cup of coffee.
Today, Jim was on board to try my normal travel schedule. So we would ride awhile before stopping for gas and food. The idea being the days gets broken up with multiple stops, spread out so they don't fall too close together. Ideally every 90 minutes, a short stop for something.
We didn't have a lot of fuel, and some traffic jams loomed. So we stopped to top of our tanks about 30 minutes after leaving the hotel.
Ninty minutes later we failed to locate a Shoney's, and fell back to a Dennny's. I like Shoney's and have attempted to go wheneven I have been down south. By my results I suspect that at least 90% of them have closed. I thought all of them closed, but I found one in 2023, and we saw one on this trip.
An hour after leaving Denny's we stopped at a BMW shop. Jim broke a hand guard when his bike tipped over. So he hoped a BWM dealer would have one. Long story short, they didn't. But I was able to lube my chain, fill my water bladder, and use the bathroom. Jim did everything except for the chain lube. His bike being shaft driven. While on the showroom floor I was also able to toss a leg over the new 1300GS and 1300 Trophy.
Another hour to an fuel and bathroom stop at an Exxon.
After an unremarkable 15 minute stop we hit the road again.
Two hours after we refueled at a Sheetz in WV. Stopping longer for a snack in the AC. Both enjoy a fruit cup and splitting some cheese and crackers. Then back on the slab.
Two hours and seventeen minutes later we pulled into the Comfort Inn in PA. Aerial photos in the lobby show that the hotel is surrounded by two golf courses. There isn't much at or near the Inn, so we had popcorn for dinner.
For those of you trying to make sense of my writing, I am sincerely sorry. Perhaps this will help. The missing state is MD. Now all that's left to clear up is that "chick flick".
Ok so our "chick flick" was a nature show about birds raising their young near niagra falls. And actually it was just one of the shows Jim flipped through as I wrote this. The last one is some bizaar movie "Companion", about robots and a psychopath. The part we saw was confusing, so I'll need to watch it all sometime. But it's clearly no chick flick.
