Leaving for Florida (4/26/2023)

Campsite 1

Late start at 10am Wednesday 4/26, after soothing the driveway. Yesterdays rain trenched the hillside and leaked into my tenants apartment. While I was changing chain, sprockets and brake pads.

The ride started overcast and cool at 45F,which turned to light rain soon after. It was cool but not cold at highway speeds. Glad I chose the heavier jacket. Eventually the sun came up and the hgh was only 58F by the time I reached the Vernon (CT) Diner.

After putting on the heated liner the temperature reached a high of 65F. Oddly I needed the heat most of the afternoon.

Picked and called a campground during my gas & coffee stop. No answer but I left a message and entered it into the gps. Went to a BBQ place on my way to the campground. My body appreciated that it was closed and I bought a salad at the attached convenience store. Arrived at the campground around 1930 to a sign on the door to call. No cell service. Rode around and talked with both campers, one was able to get me a site and took my money. I just setup the tent and took a shower.

Sleeping wasn't ideal because of the low 40F temps and a rat. Not a rat at the campground, but one that I removed last fall from my garage. It found my 50F sleeping bag. I chose a new but untested camping blanket over my 20F bag. Further South and weeks from now that may turn out to be a good choice, but not last night. The thin fleece and water proofing wasn't enough insulation and it's not wide enough to taco myself in.
