Wayah Road
10/6 Monday
Breakfast at Iron Horse Lodge, then checkin. Last night, Nate found the coin-op laundry was offline. Today, he negotiated the use of a cabins private laundry, before today's occupants arrived. Nate and I combined our laundry into one load. When that finished we placed it into the one working coin-operated dryer, then we left for the day to ride.
First stop was Deals Gap, then we rode the dragon out to TN and back into NC. Another short stop at Deals Gap, then on to my favorite "Wayah Rd".
Wayah down and Rt28 back north is a wonderfully curvy ride. We saw multiple Law Enforcement Officers all while doing near the posted limits. Everyone was happy.
Wayah Road still holds the title of best road in NC for me. It follows rivers, lakes and high end houses. Mostly flat medium radius corners with minimal surprises. It really seems to have it all. Route 28, aka The Whiskey Route is a wonderful road all it's own, and makes a perfect return path.
Before returning to Iron Horse Lodge we continued past to eat at Two Southern Gals in Robinsville NC. I enjoyed the frogs legs and a main corse.
Back at Iton Horse I retrieved our dry laundry and re-attach my side cases. Once complete, I collected fire starting items and headed over to start the fire. I met some others who encouraged the fire lighting and provided me the Wiskey that I probably didn't need.
I talked with three guys around the fire until only Nate and I remained. Then we e spent 30 minutes considering tomorrow's plans.
The plan for tomorrow is to take highways to Magie Valley, spend a few hours at Wheels Through Time, then continue on to a location on Virginia near the south end of Rt16. Probably arriving near the start of rain. Getting a motel for the rainy night and riding out of the rain mid-morning. We then expect clear skies for the rest of this trip.
