Traffic to Knox
10/3 Friday
Regardless of where I thought we went to bed, we awoke in Virginia. We crossed multiple states yesterday, and on tiny back roads, it's hard to tell where you are.
Weather continues to be perfect. Our isolated campsite is 99% nature sounds except for a few dogs barking. Even the empty porta potties seemed almost unused.
The first few hours of riding were all on Nate's backroads. The scenery was very nice today. Mostly riding through small valleys, lined with short steep ridges. Just before noon we stopped at a Waffle House, then jumped on Rt75 just north of Chattanooga. The traffic through the city was stop-and-go, in 84F heat. It is very painful to creap through city traffic when traveling. Once past the gridlock, we regrouped at a gas station. Drank a lot of liquids and refueled for a final push to a campground east of Barber.
The Knox Landing Campground is a very beautiful lakeside seasonal campground. For some reason on a perfect 65F Friday night, it is a ghost town. Only one couple is here, preparing for a surprise birthday for their daughter. We called the business number twice, and nobody answered or called back. We located an empty site, set up our tents, and then we went out for dinner. After dinner, we took showers and turned in just before 2230 EST, which is on 2130 CST.
We expect to visit Barber tomorrow, camp here again tomorrow might and move to the Iron Horse Lodge in NC on Sunday.
